The pill is a hormonal contraceptive method that prevents ovulation, but also fertilization and therefore pregnancy. It also acts by preventing the eventual egg (after fertilization) to implant in the uterus.

There are different types of pills, with different hormonal compositions and hormone levels. There are pills that combine estrogen and progesterone (oestroprogestatives), others only progesterone.

The pill is very effective as long as you do not forget it; this is especially true for the latest generation of pills that have appeared on the market and have very low hormone levels. And some pills based solely on progesterone must also be taken at fixed times.

Pills are prescribed by a doctor after a medical and gynecological examination (except for very young girls).

2nd generation pills are prescribed as first line.

use

The pills come in the form of platelets of 21 tablets. The first tablet should be taken on the first day of menstruation. Every day at the same time, one tablet is swallowed for 21 days. At the end of a wafer, the rules come back. The following plate must be started 7 days later.

Women who do not want to have a pill take the pill every day.

Depending on the composition of the pills, their hormonal concentration, the doctor can prescribe the pill for more or less specific profiles and indications. Thus, one can prescribe particular pills in case of acne, another type of pill if the woman complains of migraine ... Without forgetting of course that it is above all a means of contraception.
