ANSM ALERT on 24/09/2013:
In agreement with the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA), we inform you that medicines containing dihydroergotamine should no longer be used in the following indications:

· Background treatment of migraine.

· Treatment of orthostatic hypotension.

· Improvement of symptoms related to venolymphatic insufficiency (heavy legs, pain, impatience of primo-decubitus).
These drugs will soon be subject to a suspension of marketing authorization and a reminder of the batches on the market.


One tablet three times a day, to be taken in the middle of the meal with a glass of water.

Against indications

This medicine MUST NEVER be prescribed in the following cases:

· Known hypersensitivity to ergot alkaloids or to any of the components.

· Conditions predisposing to angiospastic reactions: coronary insufficiency (particularly unstable or spastic angina), severe infectious conditions, shock, vascular obliterating disease, peripheral vascular diseases such as Raynaud's syndrome, history of transient ischemic attack or cerebral palsy or dizziness. poorly controlled blood pressure.

· Temporary arteritis.

· Hemiplegic or basilar migraine.

· Severe hepatic insufficiency.

· In combination with triptans, antibiotics of the macrolide family (except spiramycin), antiproteases (eg amprenavir, atazanavir, fosamprenavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir), reverse transcriptase inhibitors (delavirdine, efavirenz), voriconazole, triclabendazole, quinupristin-dalfopristin combination, stiripentol, diltiazem, phenylpropanolamine (see section 4.5 ). · Digestive disorders: nausea and vomiting not related to migraine, diarrhea, abdominal pain.

· Increased blood pressure.

· Dizzying sensation.

· Hypersensitivity reaction: skin rash, facial edema, hives, dyspnea.

· Paresthesia at the extremities.

· In rare cases, vascular spasms may occur, especially at the lower extremities.

· Ischemia, even in rare cases myocardial infarction.

After prolonged use of dihydroergotamine orally, isolated cases of fibrosis (including pleural and retroperitoneal) have been reported after several years of treatment.
