Symptomatic treatment of uncompromising coughs.

Dosage DEXIR Child 0.15% Syrup bottle of 125 ml

Symptomatic treatment should be short (a few days).
The usual dosage is 1 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide per kg per day, to be divided into 3 to 4 doses spaced at least 4 hours apart.
- Child from 30 months to 6 years: 15 to 20 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide per day, ie 2 to 3 teaspoons, depending on age.
- from 6 years to 12 years: 20 to 35 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide per day, or 3 to 4 teaspoons, depending on age.
- from 12 years to 15 years: 35 to 50 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide per day, ie 4 to 6 teaspoons depending on age.

Against indications

- Respiratory insufficiency, whatever its degree,
- cough of the asthmatic,
- child under 30 months,
- treatment with non-selective and selective A MAOs by extrapolation (see interactions).
- breastfeeding: dextromethorphan passes into the milk; some cases of hypotonia and respiratory pauses have been reported in infants, after ingestion by mothers of other central antitussives at supratherapeutic doses. As a result, taking this medication is contraindicated during breastfeeding.
Due to the presence of sucrose, this drug is contraindicated in case of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.
Taking alcoholic beverages during treatment is not recommended.

Side effects Dexir Child

Possibility of constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, bronchospasm, allergic skin reactions.
