The treatment of angina pectoris can be done through medications or by an operation of dilation of one or more coronary arteries (angioplasty). In all cases, patient involvement is essential. Indeed, angina is a chronic disease that can worsen to cause myocardial infarction. Treatment must therefore include the reduction of risk factors for atheroma: eating well, stopping smoking and limiting alcohol consumption. The practice of endurance physical activity (cycling, walking, swimming) under medical supervision, is also strongly recommended.
Apart from a better lifestyle (including the mandatory cessation of smoking), the treatment of angina pectoris often requires the use of drugs that are intended to prevent the formation of a clot in the arteries ( antithrombotic) and to facilitate the delivery of oxygen to the heart (anti-ischemic). People suffering from angina must also have emergency treatment in case of seizures: a trinitrin spray that works almost instantly.
Here are some tips related to the treatment of angina pectoris:
> If you feel pain in front of the chest that "squeezes", that radiates or not to the left arm, the back, or the jaws, it is necessary to suspend the physical activity of the moment and to rest. If this pain persists, do not move, and call 15, 18 or 112 on a mobile phone.
> If you have angina pectoris, always have trinitrin (a spray or tablet that melts under your tongue). Do not hesitate to use it in case of pain. In principle, the pain disappears five to fifteen minutes later.
> If the angina attacks are repeated abnormally, in case of very low effort, or if the pain takes time to disappear despite the trinitrine, it is an emergency. It can be an unstable angina requiring urgent advice from a cardiologist.
